Indonesia officially signed a contract with former Korean coach

The Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) on December 28 officially signed the famous Korean coach Shin Tae-yong in the role of national team coach.

According to PSSI, the former South Korean coach arrived in Jakarta on December 26 to sign a four-year contract to lead Indonesia, replacing his predecessor Simon McMenemy. PSSI Chairman Mochamad Iriawan emphasized that Shin Tae-yong’s experience and successful career were an important factor in the decision to sign with the 50-year-old Korean strategist.

“Shin will have a long-term goal because we want him to make a long-term development plan for Indonesian football. However, his immediate goal will be to prepare the national team for the second round of the 2022 World Cup in Asia. We also want him to prepare his national team for the AFF Cup 2020 and U.20 World Cup 2021 (which Indonesia will host)”, said the head of PSSI.

Meanwhile, after the signing, coach Shin Tea-yong said he would like to work with both Indonesian national teams and emphasized, “I believe our fans support us because I know Indonesia is very talented”. According to sources from PSSI, the South Korean military leader will probably take on two teams including the national team and Indonesia U.20.

With the appointment of coach Shin Tae-young, PSSI and Indonesian fans are very much expected to revive the achievements of the teams in the near future. Shin Tae-yong was recently famous for leading the Korean team to beat Germany 2-0 in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup. However, before that, this strategist had a long experience and success in coaching career, notably the Seongnam Club (South Korea) crowned the AFC Champions League in 2010. In addition, coach Shin Tae-yong also held the U.20 and U.23 Korean teams in Korea 2016 Olympic and U.20 World Cup 2017.

Earlier, the South Korean commander was eager to say that he would have to immediately start studying local culture, football and religion in Indonesia. However, Shin Tae-yong’s upcoming mission will not be easy when Indoensia is in serious decline after losing all 5 matches in Group G in the second round of the 2022 World Cup.
